renovation to nomination

It's a huge honour to have nominated by...goodness knows who ?? again this year in the Connect2mums Ausmumpreneur awards in the handmade category. What a blast it was last year. The excitment, the roller coaster ride and the shock of being nominated in the first place.

To vote all you do is join connect2mums, it's free. If you'd like to vote for me, no pressure but you will be on my naughty list if you refuse, just follow this link....... You see painless, like riping off a band-aid quickly.

VOTE FOR ME HERE

Writing the 'blurb' to go with my nomination was never going to be easy.  I'm not well furnished in the brains department and bragging goes completely against my nature but needs must and here it is.....

"enoch & plonk screams “LOOK AT ME!” It’s about in your face fashion, being expressive and wearing your passion, creating for little individuals who like to stand out in a crowd.

With a background in fine art printmaking and art and design education I spent 10 years teaching in both Australia and the UK before leaving a career I loved to have children. I now spend my creative time designing and making one of a kind upcycled fashions from t-shirts, stretch and recycled fabrics. Each design is created individually using my own patterns and carefully selected fabrics.

I’ve always had a love of fashion especially the more unusual, quirky, indie styles. Being creative and having a desire to dress my children in something a little ‘different’ gave me an idea. Encouragement and positivity from family and friends gave me the confidence to venture out into business.

A mum who still has dreams for herself, is a desire you should never lose. Seeing kids wearing what I’ve created gives me a huge sense of achievement; and being a mumpreneur I can give my children the time and attention they need while continuing to chase my dreams.

Getting enoch & plonk on the map is something which has been and still is a huge challenge. Being an artist I get totally engrossed and obsessive about my work. Doubt and insecurity can play havoc with your dreams. Having patience, growing my business slowly and being able to persevere has helped me stay positive. Having a child with special needs has also helped me prioritise, organise my time more successfully and given me perspective.

Be proud of what you can do, never undersell your skills and always be open to learn new ones. Relax, take your time and enjoy the journey."

Renovation

It's always nice to have a clear out and just recently I've been revisiting a few designs which haven't sold, for whatever reason.  It also gives me a huge challenge and a sense of achievement that I've created two new dresses out of one....sort of upcycling the upcycled.

"Lovers of Rock" originally at size 7.  Created when I was joining pre-made t.shirts together and not designing using my own patterns I felt it needed a face lift and bringing into line with my newer designs which I'm extremely proud of.

So here goes.  From this............

To these.............

'Lovers of Rock'
age 5/6
$50

I've been playing with a new pattern design too.  A gorgeous raglan type sleeve which is very full and drapes beautifully over the shoulder.  It looks especially lovely in this stretchy Lycra fabric which gives it a floaty feminine look.

Rock frocks

The latest edition to the rock frock collection is Hendrix...

'Hendrix'
age 6/7
$55

Upcycling the upcycled

There's something very unique about upcycling.  You don't have the constraints of anything being precious.  You can quite happily take your scissors to anything and know that you can make it better, give it a life that the original designer did not even contemplate when they created it.

It's reminiscent of the 'Simpsons' episode were Marge buys a Chanel suit and alters it to within an inch of it's life on numerous occasions.

I'm under no illusions that not everyone loves what  I create.  One frock that while I loved at the time of making it needed a reworking.  Needing to design something 'girly' for a raffle prize winner was the ideal excuse I needed to cut it up and start again.

I'm so pleased with the resulting two frocks I'm going to have a hard time giving them up...AGAIN.  That's the problem with making things in my daughter's size.

So here's the original upcycled dress and the two created from it incorporating some bought and recycled fabrics

SOLD

When the mood takes me I do design with the little 'miss' in mind.   No frills but definitely feminine.
